Ricki is 3 years old. She was surrendered into rescue may 2011. The young woman pulled into my driveway, rolled down her window and handed me Ricki. No hello, no goodbye.. She just left Ricki and I standing there. No food, no cage, no blankets, no toys, and no carrier. Little Ricki had nothing.
In the year and a half Ricki has been here she was almost adopted twice. But because she is a single girl and doesn't like other ferrets so she got passed over for a pair of ferrets.
Ricki got really stressed out at a home visit last summer and stopped eating on her own for a week. She had lost a lot of weight and had to be force fed and put on ulcer medications. She got better. I have since learned that Ricki is very comfortable here at the rescue and with me. When others hold her she tends to stress out and stop eating for a day or two. So I now keep her contact with other people to a minimum since she is so emotional.
Aside from Ricki anti social ways with other people she is the perfect ferret. She never misses the litter box, She keeps her cage floor pretty much spotless, and her toys are always put away when she is done playing with them. She shoves them into her sleep sack. Her most favorite toy is actually a dog toy that looks like a raccoon and she searches and searches for that raccoon when it disappears for a cleaning. She loves toys in general.
Ricki also has a favorite bed. It's called, All Living Things™ Small Animal Bed. It is brown, orange, white, and green striped with a sherpa lining. It's kinda like a cuddle cup but more square than round. She gets highly upset on washing day when it disappears. So she would love to get a 2nd one so she always has her bed.
Ricki has started showing signs of adrenal disease so she has been put on the list to get a Deslorelin implant in the near future.
