Hiro

Hiro Hiro came in this past July with two cage mates Gloria and Sweetie. They were abandoned in a rental home by their former owners. When I went to pick them up the house was all closed up and it was so hot. The ferrets had been there all weekend according to the lanlord. There were only 2 ferrets in a shabby, dirty ferret nation cage. They had one store bought hammock. There was no water and the little girl was stuck in the hammock by her very long nails. I quickly assessed them and got them water. Once we got home I did my normal routine of check new kids in. The little girl was badly scarred. Which was later confirmed that she had once been on fire. Her little ears were deformed and she had no fur around her face or paws. Her eyes also looked to be damaged. She was so weak. The boy (Hiro) was completely bald do to adrenal disease but was in better shape than his sister. He had a nice big belly on him and just wanted to give love and be loved. The next day I received another phone call from the landlord. A third ferret was found!!! I quickly got in the car and drove the 40 min drive again to pick her up. She seemed to be healthy and happy to be found. All three furkids went to the vet. Sadly I had to put sweet Gloria to rest. Necropsy showed a few nasty cancerous growths in her abdomen. Hiro was started on Lupron shots and Sweetie was given a few medications do to stressing out. Sadly about two weeks later Sweetie started having seizures and nothing we did would make them stop so we had to put her to sleep as well. That left Hiro all by himself. He went into a major depression and quit eating. He was put on carafate and had to be hand fed every few hours. His big belly started shrinking. I decided to put a coupe of other ferrets with him in hopes it would help his depression and it DID!

Hiro is doing very well now and he is happy again. He has two girlfriends named Sugar and Spice and a buddy named Lewis. The lupron shots have kicked in and he is covered in fur except for his tail. He lives with his cage mates in shelter moms bedroom as all four of them need extra care throughout the day. Hiro is waiting for a des implant.
