Jailye

Jailye Jai'lye (pronounced high-lie) is a very special ferret. She was adopted from a backyard breeder and surrendered to our rescue due to very severe biting and being in heat. After getting her proper vet care and getting her spayed, we could focus on helping her thrive. She would bite, latch and draw blood and it was clear she had an intention to hurt. But our rescue worked very patiently with her. She was not just scared, she was terrified of people. We would have to use leather falconer gloves just to hold her and clip her nails, and it took more than six months to earn her trust. It was a celebrated day when we graduated from leather gloves to oven mitts! After eight months of working with her and finally seeing some progress, we knew she would need to be a part of our rescue family. The next couple of ferrets who came in became a part of her family too and helped her really come out of her shell to socialize. As she saw us interacting with "her" ferrets and treating them well, she was able to form even stronger bonds with us. After almost three years with us now, biting is still her love language, but now they are playful little nips to get our attention or warn us that is just done with us for the day. But they are her way of communicating and we are very glad we took the time to learn it! She loves her boys and her treats and loves to stash rubber ducky toys all around the shelter!
