The Ferret Rescue Society of Ottawa and Area (FRSO) does not receive any government grants and rely solely on donations and money gathered from membership dues, adoptions, product sales and fundraising events.
We provide aid to ferrets in need in the Provinces of Ontario and Quebec encompassing a distance of just over 1.1 million square miles - our volunteers and fellow support organizations are road warriors of the highest order!
Ferrets in our care are rehabilitated and given any medical attention they require. Every effort is made to ensure ferrets who are healthy enough are adopted out into carefully screened new families.
Unfortunately, some ferrets that arrive at the shelter are no longer compatible in regular family environments or have reached an age when people are no longer interested in adopting them. These ferrets will become long-term residents of the society and will be placed in special foster homes. We have a no kill policy. The only exception is if it is medically impossible to treat or heal a ferret that is suffering.
We strive to make sure each ferret lucky enough to find a place on the tree is treated as the unique individual they are so their wish list truly reflects the things that will bring them joy.
More generically the shelter is always happy to receive donations of food, cleaning supplies, puppy pads, and litter (paper or wood pellets).
